A free weather forecasting game for people who think they can beat the forecast

Weather Markets turns tomorrow’s forecast into a daily game. Instead of just checking whether it will rain, you make a call: YES or NO on whether Amsterdam’s high tops a set temperature, whether London sees measurable rain, whether New York gets strong wind gusts, or whether Tokyo gets a thunderstorm. Prices move like a prediction market, but every point is play money and leaderboard-only, with no cash value.

Thresholds are pulled from the forecast so each market opens near a genuine 50/50, which makes them worth trading. Markets close at midnight local time, before the weather happens, then settle the next morning against the Open-Meteo historical archive. Read the full rules or see who is forecasting best on the leaderboard.

Frequently asked questions

What is Weather Markets?+

Weather Markets is a free weather forecasting game where you try to beat tomorrow’s forecast in 17 world cities — Amsterdam, London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, and Auckland. You make YES or NO calls on whether the temperature, rain, wind, or a thunderstorm will beat a threshold, and every result settles automatically on public weather data.

Is Weather Markets real-money betting?+

No. Every player starts with 10,000 play points that have no cash value. Monthly winners can help choose a good cause for a site-funded donation, but points cannot be cashed out or redeemed. It is a forecasting game, not a betting service or financial product.

How do weather prediction markets work?+

Each market asks a yes-or-no question about tomorrow’s weather. You pick YES or NO shares at a price set by an automated market maker, so there is always a live crowd probability. A share priced at 30 points means the crowd sees a 30% chance — price and probability are the same number, and your pick nudges the line.

How are markets settled?+

Markets close at midnight local time, before the day they describe, then settle the next morning against the Open-Meteo historical weather archive and nothing else. If the archive has not published yet, the market stays pending and retries.

How do I win points?+

Each share you hold pays 100 points if it turns out right and nothing if it is wrong. Forecast better than the crowd, find underpriced calls, and your play-point balance grows. Rank on the leaderboard by return on your starting points.

Which cities can I forecast?+

17 cities spread across time zones — from the US west coast to Europe, Asia, and Oceania — so a market is almost always about to close: Amsterdam, London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, and Auckland. Each city runs separate markets for temperature, rain, wind gusts, and thunderstorms.

Is it free to play?+

Yes. Weather Markets is completely free. Claim a username on your first call, start with 10,000 points, and play as much as you like.
